Hump
Is it ONLY Wednesday?
I am cactus! Exhausted – mentally and physically…and my work week (loose term) has only just begun.
Poor Kaela has been through the mill the past few days. Last Friday she had a speech pathology test that was requested back in January (by school) and 9 months later got an appointment. All fine!
This Monday her and I went through the day surgery saga for THE TOOTH Removal – with an added complication that I am still chastising myself about*.
Yesterday it was the trip to Nowra (total 3 hours drive) and back to have her eyes tested – we got the ALL CLEAR! So she doesn’t have to sit down every afternoon for 20 mins and do her ’stupid eye test’. Boy were we both relieved. We went straight to the guitar shop and got her the guitar she had her mind set on and she declared that it ‘will be great for my reading Mum’. Bless.
I have also started a recent study into lower back pain – where I am doing an hour of functional exercises, 3 times a week, AT 6am! Gaaaaaaaaaaaah. I haven’t been up that early since the kids were teeny tiny.
* Given my recent diagnoses of inherited insulin resistance, and Kaela’s flighty behaviour after certain foods etc, our GP gave me a referral to get bloods taken when Kaela was under her general anaesthetic on Monday. On Sunday night, Steve and I turned the house UP SIDE DOWN to find that blink-it-i-blink piece of paper to no avail.
Normally this wouldn’t be a problem – just contact the Dr and get a new one, right? Problem for us was that surgery was at 6.30am and the Doctors didn’t open till 8.30am and that particular Doctor is brilliant – BUT ALWAYS LATE.
The surgery sister had a brilliant idea to give Kaela a cannula so that when we got on to the doctor they could take the bloods and ‘Bob’s your uncle’. Only, the Doctor finally faxed the form at 10.30am. By then we were well and truly ready to go home and Kaela had whipped herself into a frenzy about how it was going to hurt. Many tears and three vials of blood later, I am cursing myself for possibly giving her a complex for the rest of her life. Ah Mother Guilt! Tis a wonderful thing.

Oh the poor little blossom. I hope she’s feeling better now. Good news about her eyes and speech though: all the hassles were worth it to get such a good result!!! You were very dedicated to getting these problems sorted out, I am ever so confident you can conquer the blood test thing too!!! Hope the rest of the week is calm and happy!! (6am??? truly that is far too early)
Ah yes, a Mother’s place is in the wrong. – Never mind that you are doing a fab job of looking out for your kid.
It currently takes 5 adults to take one vial of blood from Adam, but it works and he’s happy with it – they’ll gradually wean him down when he’s ready for it.
poor sausage! hope you get a chance to relax soon.
Blaise is a perfectly well adjusted child – but at 11 still needed 6 adults to hold her down and Mummy holding her hand when boods were needed (and they were needed frequently), she is 17 now and takes herself to the GP for vaccinations and blood tests…so I am sure that all will be well with Kaela – no long term phobias.
You are a great Mum!
A mothers guilt is never done!
How lovely a mum are you! I am in awer (and hope neither of mine need blood done soon – although Destructoboy was very good having his needles last week!)
