Hats off

May 7, 2008

I’m on a roll.  Hats hats everywhere. Well not really. But I am prone to exaggeration at the best of times.

I finished 2 adorable hats last week for my lovely friends that have the 2 lovely twins.  I based them on Jussi’s lovely pattern but changed the tops to have two different i-cords….they reminded me of Snuggle Pot and Cuddle Pie.

I used the lovely Cleckheaton Bamboo, held double, and they came out so smooth and soft.

I have been working on a hat for me for the last few days in, ahem, Patons Smoothie DK. It’s 100% Acrylic. And. It’s lovely.  The Colour and the Sheen caught my eye straight away.

I’ll admit. I never thought that I would knit in 100% Acrylic. I don’t mean this in a snobby way.  Usually the Acrylic is scratchy and yuck, and I figure with so many other options and time spent on projects I would rather spend a little more money and get some lovely yarn.  But I’ve gotta say, I’d happily go back and use this again.  I am making my Lina a little longer in the brim so I can turn it up if I want to.  Usually me and hats don’t mix but this is such a nice one.  I’m prepared to be laughed at in public.

And so.  Time for a photo of Hamish ‘cutting’ his toenails.

With his teeth.

Man. If I attempted something like that the kids would have to call the ambulance.

He was giving me a cuddle the other day, and suddenly he sat up and looked at me with wonderment in his eyes.

Mum! I can hear your LINGS!

(This photo with full baby teeth on show makes me realize he may look like he’s 7 but he’s not even 6 yet)(Love it).

Nice hats! I caught my 5year old son doing the same thing the other day - what can I say? Boys can be strange! :0)

Great hats - love the Lina - and Hamish is pretty cute - I can still touch my head with my foot - it’s just more of an effort these days - LOL!

Cute hats, like the colors of all three. Gee, I can remember when my sis and I could do things like that. Oh, youth!

I hope he doesn’t kiss you with that mouth!!!

Nice colour on the Smoothie. But I’m still not sure I could do it (I’m such a yarn snob). Love the matching but not baby hats too - excellent idea!

And I thought I was the only mother with a kid who trimmed his toenails in THAT WAY. Mind you, he is now a solidly built (as in brick shit-house solid) 42 year old, and has a fairly fastidious wife, so even if he still could, you can bet he would not be allowed…………..(evil, evil grin)

But he is living proof that the habit, whilst distressing to the maternal mind, is not damaging to the health or constitution of the offender - probably reinforces the immune system.

Is Hamish wearing his goggles??!! He is so funny!! What’s a little toenail between family anyway!!

Such lovely hats, the Cuddlepie twin hats!! You are right about some new acrylics: I felt some the other day and it was Really soft and squishy, in a good way!!

    I still won’t wear a hat…but I won’t laugh at you!!

LOL,my middle son used to suck his big toe as a small baby instead of his thumb and in later years would use his toe again to scratch his ear! He’s built like a rugby player now and muscles get in the way of flexibility!!!
Id like to try Smoothie! The Angel from last years ISE5 sent me a gorgeous acrylic/cashmere(10%) scarf and already Ive searhed it down on the web, soft and very likeable!
