Gulp pattern

April 27, 2008

A quick project - a Gulp and it’s gone project - a grab 2 different skeins of yarns, and away you go project. It’s not difficult, nor is it rocket science.  The secret is the dropped stitches.  I loved the result these 2 yarns gave so I thought I would share my recipe!

GULP

Finished Measurements (unblocked) -Approx 4 inches/10cm wide by 74 inches/190cm long.

Yarn A - 1 skein of Mirasol Hacho in shade 303 (50g/125m/137yds)

YARN B - 1 skein of Filatura di crosa - Zara in shade 1734 (50gms 125m/137yds)

Needle used - 1 x 100cm circular with 4mm tips (Knit Picks Options)

Notions - Yarn Needle

Gauge - 4 stitches/1 inch in garter stitch

Pattern

This pattern is knit lengthways so you are casting on the total length that your scarf will end up.

Loosely Cast on 250 stitches with Yarn A

Row 1- Knit

Row 2 - Knit

Row 3 - Knit

Row 4 - Change to Yarn B (winding A gently around start of Yarn A and dropping it) Knit entire row by wrapping yarn around needle twice before knitting the stitch.

Row 5 - Knit (carefully dropping one of the extra wraps off each stitch to make an elongated stitch). See above link if you aren’t sure what I mean)

Change back to Yarn A and repeat Rows 1 - 5 until desired WIDTH of scarf (or approx 5 dropped stitch sections) remembering to change yarns when necessary and also to wrap unused yarn gently up the side of the scarf width).

Change back to Yarn A and knit 2 rows of garter stitch. Loosely Cast off. Weave ends in.

I think it’s a great way to use up odd balls of sock yarn or DK yarn….what do you think?

I choose not to block my version as I liked the end result as it was.

Lovely and you’ve managed to combine two of my favourite colours - blue and chocolate brown. Nice work : ) Easy, fast and kinda kicky.

What a clever idea: you are full of clever ideas!! Love the colours and the pattern. Tink is right, it’s beginning to look a lot like Winter here: scarf weather.
