Is there more….

10 04 2008

to life than knitting/fibre?

I mean I know there is but it seems so all encompassing sometimes. As a knitter/spinner/weaver I find myself drawn to blogs that talk about the never ending pursuit of the perfect project/finished Object.

But I feel like some new blogs to watch.

I came upon Dooce.

I love Go Fug yourself.

(Obviously Blogs with a nice healthy dose of sarcasm and wit interest me).

You got any others you can steer me towards?

Whilst I am on this subject, I don’t listen to podcasts much. But want to.  Got any suggestions for those too?

I recently found Confessions of a Pioneering Woman blog. If you find yourself with an idle hour, you should really read her serial story about meeting her husband From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels. Swoon!

I can’t believe no one’s mentioned Lime n Violet yet….

Occasionally bawdy, almost always funny, it’s like hanging out with your friends and obsessing over yarn. :)

“Sticks and String” is still myfavourite knitting podcast. ABC is also good; or, for classic books try librivox [free].

The rules podcast is pretty good – and made my a couple of sydneysiders. I’d recommend you give it a whirl. No knitting, but they chat about modern ettiquite and sometimes is pretty amusing.

Definitely recommend Stash and Burn podcast – very relaxed and they do have great guest interviews

If you haven’t already, try thepioneerwoman.com. Theres a LOT going on at her website. Most of us just love her serialized story of how she met her husband. So, if you check her out, you should go read the Black Heels to Tractor Wheels chapters and catch up before the next chapter comes out.

Her recipes are wonderful, too.

Delurking to say Radiolab is fabulous, as is This American Life – most episodes are great, some are brilliant – it’s very rare to be disappointed and there are tons of them. Well worth checking out. : )

(And I’d second the recommendation to check out the ABC)

I like Stash and Burn too. I’m also listening to Cast On, but from the beginning, not the most recent ones (I think I’m still in 2006!). I find Brenda Dayne’s voice very soothing.

Love Dooce and Go Fug Yourself. For shoes, I do Manolo’s Shoe Blog (there’s a link on my blog) and also Manolo for the Big Girls (you won’t need that one!!). I love A Dress A Day – she has a very distinctive aesthetic (loves pockets! And full skirts! and shirtdresses!) but it’s a lot of fun. The Sartorialist – great fashion on the streets. Cute Overload for when you really need a “n’oor, that’s SO CUTE” moment (sometimes you need an antidote to sarcasm!!). Aaaaay! (link from Manolo’s Shoe Blog – funny celebrity stuff)

But yeah, most of my bloglines are knitting blogs…

I don’t do knitting podcasts but I occasionally check out whatever’s available from the ABC – http://www.abc.net.au/services/podcasting/ Makes me feel like I’m getting my daily 32 cents worth! (or however much it is)

Stash and Burn is good. They just interviewed Norah Gaughan and it was very interesting. Her voice wasn’t what I was expecting.

I like the non-knitting ones, the photography course podcasts, podcasts for walking or running (good idea huh? – like a personal trainer in your ears), the food ones, great music ones. I remember Sharon saying she listens to one on the mind, like a psychology kind of thing, she loved it. I don’t know if it’s still around though.

‘From couch to 5k’ is a running training podcast and it is really good. Podcast alley is a good place to find them.

That’s Faster Than Kudzu, Joshilyn Jackson’s blog. She’s a Southern American writer, a mother, and funny as all get out. I like her books, too.
