Sometimes the need to swatch/cast on/knit a few rows…………………
………allays the hunger to start a new project. I have learnt to listen to the inner knitter and do just that. When I am looking at my newly acquired yarn, or see an inspirational pattern, all I can think about it starting something new. The Mind Police have a wrestle with my Good Angel, and much too-ing and fro-ing, and then I just remind myself that just cause I have listed it in Ravelry as a new project doesn’t mean I HAVE to continue it.
This week I started Stricken, and tussled with it for about 20 rows till it started to flow. Then I put it down. Last night I cast on stitches for the Grasshopper Scarf in the Malabrigo lace-weight…..all the time thinking “This is NOT the right yarn for this – it’s way too thin”….did about 20 rows, and frogged it.
Then I picked up my Kyoto and continued to knit it – knowing all the time that I had listened to the new Yarn/Idea, given them a run off the leash and put them back in their zip lock baggies. They can come out later. Sometimes the need to swatch/cast on/knit a few rows does the trick.
I wish I was 16 again…………………………..
I was such a New Age Romantics Freak. Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran, Midge Ure/Ultravox, Adam Ant, Tears for Fears, Madonna, Culture Club/Boy George AND WHAM!. This link cracks me up due to my inner N.A.R. voice….(Heaven 17 – nahh didn’t like them, Visage – ooooh they were strange, Psuedo Echo – they were pretty good, Icehouse – goooood). Donna saw THEM. Sigh. Steve wasn’t keen – he just doesn’t get them. They are looking a little older though.
Hamish’s mind never rests………………..
…………..a few days ago I read that there will be a new X-men movie, about Wolverine and his childhood (that’s Hugh Jackman, for those unsure what I am talking about) (take note there has already been 3 X-men movies) (my life has changed)(I know these things) (at least it beats knowing why Sam replaced Greg). I mentioned it to Hamish and he has been pondering it for a couple of days. Last night the piercing look (usually precedes the pearls of wisdom so I take note), coupled with the “MuUm?” led to the following conversation.
Hamish: MuUM. With X-men 4 they will talk about Wolverine. Does that mean in X-men 5 they will talk about Storm?
Me: Yep, guess so. See, X-men is a cartoon, like Spiderman, so there can be lots of movies of them (all the time thinking “Yummy Yummy – more Hugh).
H: So that means they will have a whole movie on The Professor?
Me: Yep
H: And a whole movie on Rogue?
Me: Yep
H: And a whole movie on Var-jea-nA (spelling it phonetically – you get the picture)
Me: Cough Splutter, Who?
H: VAR – Jean -NNaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Me: (brain scrabbling, brain scrabbling, V*gina, Vageeena, who’s Vagin*….Oh!) Oh! (unable to hold it in) Haaah hahhaaaaaaaaaaaa hhhaahhhh – Do you mean Jean?
H: Yep.
Me: (still snickering) Guess So H.

David wasn’t keen either, but I think he enjoyed it more than he let on.
Snort! Var-jean-a! Took me a minute to pick up on that one – I’m the only female in my house, so the word’s not exactly common parlance here.
Heh, heh. New Romantics – I never really got the whole Duran Duran thing. But I did have a bit of a thing for Tears for Fears and Ultravox, and I actually paid money for the Wham album.
I was a big ol’ comic book nerd back in High School, and my particular favourite was X-Men. I loved the first two movies, but I thought the third one reeked. So I’m a bit hesitant about this new one.
heh! my 5 y.o. can’t remember how to say “Jemima” so guess what the dolly from playschool gets called accidentally, allll the time.
Aaaah the new romantics – still love simple monds and spandeau ballet – sigh – I loved being that age!!
Oh, the good old days of 80s music.
Oh Hamish! That’s adorable.
out of the mouths of babes. Oh to be so inocent again.
that’s really funny – thanks for the laugh!
Now I have that song stuck in my head!! Though that’s not a bad thing- I would play my Duran Duran CD right now if I had one. Must get one!!!
You are promising Hamish the world: hope they deliver or there might be fireworks!!! I love the way his mind works!!
Hahahaha! Var-JY-na! That’s a good one! Those boys! I laughed about the music thing, too, though – have you ever seen Music and Lyrics (the movie with Hugh Grant)? It wasn’t that great – actually, I thought it stunk, BUT the opening, where they have a mock video of him in an 80s band, had me laughing soooo hard that I fell.off.the.couch. Really. It was hysterical because it was so… well, real. Watch it if you can!
