I haven’t been completely honest about sticking to the projects I have been mentioning.

A couple of weeks ago I dyed up that LUSH optim with a colourway in mind. Deep dark teal graduating into a light sea green. I could see the final product – a wrap with the graduations running softly through it (light to dark to light).

I dyed it specifically….dropped most of the long long long long piece of roving into a pot with Dark Teal in there. It didn’t all soak in – I planned it that way. Over the top I poured a light Teal with Yellow all over the top….a lovely light Sea Green.

And resisted the urge to stir it.

When it dried out I knew it was going to be just right.

I spun it up with a smile on my face…….long long long long thin strips, dark into light, every strip the same, matching it all.

Smiling.

It came out as I planned. So soft. Just right.

(This one shows the 2 plied yarn in the middle, left is navajo plied, right is the singles)

Then the swatching. Yep. Swatching.

(for the record – Snowflake from Barbara Walker)

I tried a few.

Nice, but not quite right.

Tried another – though it looked right.

Took it along to every second Tuesday – and it grew. But but I wasn’t happy with the way that the lace was playing with the colour graduation. So I unwound it. And had a think. And another. Then I knew that I had to weave it.

I pulled out my collection of weird and wonderful cones of thin thin thin yarns – some nylon, some rayon, some wool. None of the colours were right.

On their own.

But together, warped up on my 50cm Knitters Loom, fantastic.

I haven’t finished the wrap yet. But all I can say is, sigh. It is just right. (How many times can I use the word “right”?).
