Splat

That is the sound of my brain going SPLAT!  Idea Implosion/Explosion – just a great big mess of ideas.

(Say’s latest work – see later in post)

I just dropped off some of my offerings to the Scarborough Art and Craft Exhibition and some of the stuff I saw there was AMAZING.  I already have my credit card ready to purchase 2 fine items – 1 being an amazing Felted Bowl (an absolute steal for the price – the lady creator will become famous I am sure – her work is amazing).  And a mosaic piece by my very clever girlfriend Alison. I can’t wait till opening night (Friday 6pm) where it is open slather in the Craft Section and people can purchase and take stuff home that night as opposed to the Art section where purchases have to be left for the weekend to be ooooohed and aaaahhhhhed over.

I have to say the best part is wandering around annoymously watching my stuff get ooohhed and ahhhhed over, then purchased! Such a buzz!  I have been known to approach the person and thank them for purchasing one of my items….can’t help myself.  It might be the glass of champagne in hand that helps that part.  Nonetheless it is an ubercool night where you can wear Boho-chic (read Nana’s black silk slip) over Jeans and a wrap thrown "just so" over the shoulders and no-one blinks at the pink tinted hair, and ferals rub shoulders with moneyed Sydney siders dropping down to their $1.m weekender.

Mind you I still think of myself as a slight surprise entry and really can’t quite believe that they keep asking me back each year….my stuff is wonky, bright and not at all technically crafted – but I am still happy with what I entered this year.  I will, of course, take photos to share.

After dropping the stuff off for the curator to start working her magic I come home with so many ideas buzzing through my head and I start surfing the waves of the Mind Draining Internet coming up with some amazing things.

Please go and have a look at Say’s Blog.  Her recent work is amazing (Marji – have a look at her weaving) – I hope she doesn’t mind but I wanted to give you a teaser to look at – see above photo. Silk, hand painted – still not finished – please – go – look – drool.

Then, courtesy of Whip-up, Entwinements has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the 6th installment on the making of something like this.  It is a breathtaking piece but when you see all the work involved you wouldn’t be grudge throwing a king’s ransom at them

to take something like this home – just to look at. Would you

Whilst I still await the arrival of my fall Interweave Knits (don’t laugh – there is a doozey of a post approaching – when/if I actually receive my copy sometime this century – they REALLY know how to look after their subscribers don’t they) (um, that previous statement is so heavily dripping with sarcasm that I am afraid it will fall off this post) I will plough through to find the Swallowtail shawl displayed so magnificently by Brooklyn Tweed (my new most favourite blog in the WORLD).

And did I mention that JAE tutored La Harlot with a quirky lace question? No? She is too embarrassed to talk about it – but really – we all deserve to be told don’t we? Go on – go and hassle her and maybe she will share with you.

  1. Don’t understate your talents! You are extremely creative and artistic.

  2. There’s a lot of amazing, talented people out there… and you are one of them!

PS: That shawl is perfect for Saturday night (and yes, that’s me in the pic – minus my head).

  3. The craft fair sounds like fun and I know your work is fully deserving of being there. I think I want your Boho-chic outfit -I keep daydreaming about tinting my hair something crazy, even if just for a few days.

And gosh, thanks for the posting about my blog! The layout is perfect with your brain is going ’splat’ and my crazy piece beneath it. I’m in stitches.

  4. You do yourself an injustice!!! I think your creations are beautiful.
Subscriptions: I absolutely abhor the fact that the magazines etc arrive AFTER they have appeared in the shop or newsagency.Sometimes here they are 10 working days later!! In the end I asked my nice newsagent to pop them in his file for me: much more sensible!!! Isn’t the shawl beautiful???
