WTF?

You Are Skiing

Graceful, athletic, and gusty – you’re willing to put it all on the line.
You’re willing to take big risks for big rewards.

Heh heh – well thank god for that! I would have worried if it said anything like Skeleton or something like that.

So we went camping – and – it was ok! There! I said it! ONE night camping was just fine.  We looked on it as a learning weekend to work out what we would have done differently (heh heh Jae – apart from staying in a 5 star hotel) and a few extra things like Bikes/Scooters for the kids and stuff would have helped.  And a bigger tent.  And working out that putting Kaela in-between us was BAD.  But otherwise we survived.

Z_061_1Anyways – a few weeks ago I alluded to something and didn’t really go anywhere with that.  Taryn told you a little about it, Sharon mentioned it too – but I only talked about it in passing.

A small group of us Knitting Chicks got together for The First Annual Hight Tea and Knitting at The Victoria Room.

This wonderful shot shows from left Ailsa, Meg, Sharon and Bronte, Donna, Taryn and Myself.

We had a great time and drank champagne, tea and ate our way happily through a few "stands" of High Tea Fodder. (We did miss you Jussi).

WIP’s were flashed, some completed objet d’art featured and we even had an unloved yarn swap that made our hearts sing.

I want to you look good and hard at our photo.  Doesn’t it look lovely?

Vr1_1Now I want you to look at the Victoria Rooms’ photo.  Can you see a difference? (Hint – it has to do with LIGHT). (Look Girlies – the blinds are open).  Too funny – it was so dark that we couldn’t whip out the knitting and get stuck into it!

It was very atmospheric and we really enjoyed it – think we will make it an annual event – will let you know. We might, perhaps pick a different venue so that we can indulge in the Fiber Arts in the daylight.

One of the cool/quirky things that happened was Drucilla "Queen of the Tea Readings" – visited us (I don’t know her name – but it sounds good, non?)

She proceeded to tell Sharon that she wasn’t having any more babies in the next 5 years (as she nursed 4 month old Bronte – I think her {"front bottom/wooser" would have agreed at that stage), nailed Donna as working with Costumes (that was weird – she moved to Donna – took one look at her tea leaves and said "You work with Costumes" – not your usual opening line) and proceeded to tell Ailsa that she would procure 2 unusual animals (not dogs or cats)(we think it could be Alpacas or Llamas), and that her street would be dug up.  Sharon lives in the same street and her street wasn’t being dug up so we wait with baited breath.

She shared with me a few things – I now share with you.

  1. I would begin working, overseas, with my current line of work – and it would involve a microphone, where I would be speaking to many many people. Not my hobby (dang – there goes my quest for international Knitting Podcast Stardom) – but my current job – in their overseas office or something like that (I work for a very small Local Not-For-Profit Sports Medicine Clinic as a Receptionist)(not Apple or General Electric).  It would happen in the next 3 months.  She was VERY adamant about this.
  2. Steve and I would have a MAJOR fight about who parked their car in the other’s spot – up a steep incline – in our yard (We live on a VERY flat block of land and don’t give a flying …. about where we park the cars)
  3. My husband, has a very stern face, with grey wavy hair, and looks much older than me (All news to me as Steve has a lovely smiling face, with straight black hair)
  4. He (my husband) would apply for a job in a place that I definitely didn’t want to go – "why would he do that? Why would he apply for a job to go somewhere when he knew you didn’t want to go" she asked me.  How would I know? I’m the one that WANTS to travel/move and Steve isn’t.  This caused much confusion (Or was I still reeling from the big argument about the cars with my Grey Haired Husband).

Now – a wonderful friend of mine who is the eternal pessamist mentioned to me that I should be open to suggestions and see what happened.  (And that, legally/technically, I wasn’t married to Steve so….the Grey Hair guy might still come along). So I guess in a month or two I should be off, with someone I don’t know, moving to a place I don’t want to go to, whilst preaching to millions via the airwaves.  You will all be the first to know the link of the Broadcast – ok?

Hope you like the new look of the blog.  Mwah.

PS – have you ever seen THIS BLOG? So lovely – I am a certified lurker there from now on!

  1. You should buy those needles that glow in the dark… and be sure to keep us posted about your new life – grey haired husband and all! x

  2. Mary said it first and best – but can you take me on your international conference tour? You can leave your new husband at home to live where he wants to.
The Victoria Room reminds me of the the umm erk oh it is really nice opposite the Vic Parliament…. heck, can’t think of the place at all. It might be fun to go have arvo tea (devonshire tea) there and knit….

  3. I’ll be looking out for you on the international conference circuit, as you preach your message of not-for profit sports medicine, accompanied by your stern, grey-haired husband who is very fussy about his parking space.

  4. I know what you mean about Brooklyn Tweed – ever since Grumperina linked to that gorgeous red shawl….
Tea leaf reading sounds like an amusing diversion if nothing else.
My winter sport is curling – I’m a chicken-s**t wuss when it comes to snow/ice and speed. :-)
    New blog template looks good.

  5. you know…sometimes I like to just come to your blog and find out what time it is there. Just so I know.

  6. Spooky!! I laughed out loud at those predictions!!!(My mum INSISTS LOL means lots of love!!!) High Afternoon Tea is divine!! My sport, if you can call it a sport, is curling!!!! I love your new ‘All Sorts Of Stuff’, it is very very cool indeed.

  7. Geez, I’m glad I didn’t get my tea leaves read, I just couldn’t handle the suspense! Have you seen the tea rooms in the QVB (top floor)? They look very nice – about the same deal with food/champers etc, but potentially more light!

  8. I do like the new blog, it looks less complicated, is that the right word. Well anyway I like it, and Jarod’s blog is great isnt it. I just found it a little while ago too, and his photography is gorgeous, only wish he would take my pictures for me. Looks and sounds as though your get together had some interesting outcomes.

  9. Hey I have broadcast your voice in my livingroom…when I had speakers. SO long as tea was good entertainment gave you a whole blog topic. Even if Steve does not have grey hair now you never know how it might change in the future….

    Happy knitting

  10. Hey, I’m not picky – I’ll stay at a 3 star. :)

  11. I think Brooklyn Tweed would be scared to know how many of us lurk around his blog. Our group has been talking about doing a little High Tea get together. Tea Rooms have suddenly become more popular in America.

  12. WOW! thats kinda wierd that she said all that stuff about your future… and that she was soooo soure about it! kinda neat to here Donna and Ailsa’s names mentioned i was in the lace swap with them…

  13. Thanks for reminding me about Brooklyn Tweed – I had a quick browse a few months ago, and forgot to subscribe. I’m another certified lurker. (And now I’m getting an urge to do nupps. Can I do nupps? Course I can!)

So some major life changes ahead – I watch and wait with interest…

  14. MMM lots of people international office and a microphone come and join our Directory Assistance I do that 5 days a week. So does working in a callcentre cross the mind.
